About Us
HOME FROM HOME
Home From Home Foods has been the West Midlands' Caribbean and African grocery shop since 1976. We're a family-run business with two stores — our original in West Bromwich and a second in Wolverhampton — supplying the brands, ingredients and fresh produce that mainstream UK supermarkets don't stock. Visit us in person or order online for UK-wide delivery.
Our Story
We opened our doors in 1976 to serve the West Midlands' growing Afro-Caribbean community. Many of our first customers were the Windrush generation and their children — families who had settled in Britain from the late 1940s onwards and could not easily find the ingredients of home on UK high streets. There was no plantain in Tesco, no ackee on the Sainsbury's shelves, no scotch bonnet in the corner shop. We set out to change that.
Fifty years on, we are still in the same business and still owned by the same family. The community has grown, the second and third generations have come of age, and our shelves have widened to cover Jamaican, Nigerian, Ghanaian and Trinidadian cooking — but the principle has not changed. We stock the brands people grew up with, the fresh produce that defines Caribbean and West African cooking, and the everyday items that make a kitchen feel like home.
Our Shops
We have two physical shops, both in the West Midlands. You are welcome to visit either, browse the shelves, and pick up your own fresh produce.

What We Stock
We carry the full range of Caribbean and West African groceries, with cuisine-specific aisles for each of the main island and regional traditions we serve:
- Jamaican food — ackee, saltfish, gungo peas, hardo bread, scotch bonnet, jerk seasoning, Supermalt and everything else you need for a Sunday dinner
- Nigerian food — egusi, palm oil, garri, dried fish, Maggi seasoning and the staples of Nigerian home cooking
- Ghanaian food — kenkey, gari, palm nut, smoked fish and the ingredients for jollof, fufu and Ghanaian soups
- Trinidadian food — green seasoning, roti flour, pimento peppers, Chief curry powder and Trini staples for doubles, pelau and curry chicken
Across these aisles you'll find the brands generations of customers ask for by name: Grace Foods, Dunn's River, Supermalt, Excelsior, National, Sea Isle, KTC, Dalgety Teas and Caribbean Choice. We also produce our own Home From Home line — tinned ackee, callaloo and other staples sourced and packed for the UK Caribbean market.
For everyday shopping, our main category aisles cover fresh food (plantain, yam, cassava, scotch bonnet, jelly coconuts, breadfruit and more), salted fish and meat, tinned goods, cooking ingredients, drinks, bakery and Caribbean toiletries, beauty and healthcare.
Howe's Export — Our Wholesale Arm
Alongside the retail shops, we run Howe's Export, our wholesale operation supplying Caribbean and African food to independent shops, restaurants and caterers across the UK and into mainland Europe. If you run a business and need trade-volume supply, Howe's Export is where to start.
