Vegetables & Yams

Fresh provisions are what make Caribbean and West African cooking taste like home, and they are the hardest things to find in a British supermarket. We bring them in weekly and deliver them across the UK.

Yams and ground provisions are the backbone. Jamaican yellow yam for boiling alongside saltfish, Ghana white yam for pounding into fufu, cus cus soft white yam, cocoyam and dasheen for soups and boiled sides, and Jamaican and Ugandan sweet potato. Matooke for the East African kitchen.

Green banana and plantain — green plantain for frying into tostones, ripe plantain for the sweet, caramelised side that goes with almost everything, and green banana for boiling as a provision.

The aromatics that no Caribbean recipe works without: scotch bonnet peppers, spring onion, fresh thyme, fresh ginger and onions. Buy them together and you have the base for rice and peas, brown stew, or a pot of soup.

A note on fresh produce: everything here is a natural product, so size and appearance vary. We pack fresh to order and dispatch quickly.
