Fresh Jamaican cocoes in a 1kg pack. Cocoes — also known as eddoes — are a small starchy root vegetable used across Caribbean and West African cooking, particularly important in soups and stews. The flesh is white and slightly nutty; boil until tender and serve alongside saltfish, in cock soup or pumpkin soup, or mashed with butter. Peel before cooking using gloves if you have sensitive skin (the raw skin can irritate). The 1kg pack contains several cocoes, enough for a family soup or several meals. Particularly common in Saturday-soup tradition across the Caribbean diaspora.
